WHALE BREATH CHALLENGE

Measuring your breath against a sperm whale’s dive

Created for Fjord & Bælt, the Whale Breath Challenge turns a fact about sperm whales into a physical timed interaction. A visitor presses and holds a button while holding their breath; the interface measures the person’s time alongside a filmed sperm-whale dive, showing the two durations in parallel.

The visual system uses twin circular timers and a progressive video sequence to make scale visible: a human attempts seconds while the whale’s dive extends towards 90 minutes. I designed the interaction logic, screen interface, visual time comparison and the installation prototype.
