The Magic Mountain turns a sculptural environment into a responsive experience where physical choices trigger sound, light and digital reactions.
The physical sculpture was created by Danish artist Jens Galschiøt. Martin designed and developed the interactive layer around the artwork, connecting physical controls, electronics, sound and software without allowing the technology to compete with the sculpture.
The installation was designed for children, families and visitors at a hospital. Clear physical affordances invite exploration, while each action produces an immediate response. The interaction moves through a simple sequence: a visitor makes a physical choice, Arduino and custom electronics translate the input, and Unity coordinates the audiovisual response.
The system combined Unity, Arduino, sound design and custom electronics. Prototyping focused on reliable input, readable cause and effect, timing and a robust setup suitable for repeated public use.
