INTERACTIVE MUSEUM INSTALLATION · KINECT, MAX/MSP/JITTER & REAL-TIME GRAPHICS
A silhouette becomes the screen
Skygge-o-mat was created for Shadows, an exhibition at Odense City Museums. It is a camera-based interactive installation that lets visitors become part of the projected image. A Kinect depth camera detects a visitor in front of the screen, isolates their silhouette and fills it with responsive graphics.
The installation treats the body as an input device rather than something observed from a distance. As visitors move, their shadow becomes an active visual surface: an immediate way to explore the relationship between light, outline and projection.
I developed the complete interactive system in Max/MSP/Jitter, using depth data from the Kinect to create a real-time silhouette mask and visual composition. The project combines computer vision, real-time graphics and exhibition design in an interface that can be understood without instructions.
