Three ways to power a train
Created for Brændstof — The Long Journey from Black to Green Transport at the Danish Railway Museum, this set of three hands-on model-railway installations turns railway energy history into direct physical action. Visitors move three model trains by refuelling a wooden petrol pump, putting coal into a hatch, or turning a wind turbine.
Each station makes a different energy source tangible: fossil fuel, coal-fired steam and electricity. Rather than presenting the difference as a label on a wall, the installations let visitors create the energy themselves and immediately see the consequence on the railway.
I designed and built the complete interactive system—from physical interfaces and electronics to embedded software and model integration. The completed model-train installations use micro:bit control; the concept was also designed to be compatible with Arduino-based systems.
