KLIMAX RFID MAP TABLE

INTERACTIVE MUSEUM INSTALLATION · 2009

CLIENT: ROSKILDE MUSEUMS

Developed for KlimaX at Roskilde Museum, this physical map installation invited visitors to place different RFID cards on a reader and turn a potentiometer. Each card activated a class of archaeological find from Roskilde Fjord; the potentiometer moved through the period in which the find was dated. Shell middens, for example, revealed traces of former settlements and where people had lived, while the shoreline shifted across the map over time.

I designed and animated the changing map markers and historical layers in Adobe Animate using ActionScript 3 and tweening. The physical interface was built around an Arduino, an RFID reader and a rotary potentiometer, linking tangible inputs to the audiovisual map experience.
