Interactive Café Tables — Pixel Display System

A distributed LED display system built into 16 café tables for MakerCity Festival. Each table incorporated a 9 × 9 matrix of WS2811 multicolour LEDs, creating a large pixel display that could be controlled from the stage during talks and music.

I conceived and organised the project, then developed it with makerspace and electronics groups alongside volunteer contributors. The displays were built collaboratively in the makerspace during both teaching sessions and spare time.

Each table contained an Arduino, while the team tested several controller configurations—from a shared microcontroller to individual control. Beyond event graphics, the tables became a playful platform for games such as Snake and Tetris.
